The woman found Brandon Simosa in the hallway of her apartment building on West 44th St. on Sunday at 2 am, where he was reportedly masturbating, sources told the New York Post. Simosa has reported ties to the notorious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which has proliferated across New York City and many states in the US, per ABC7.
Simosa is accused of stealing the woman’s purse, smartphone and bank card before fleeing the scene. Police found him by tracking the cell phone signal, which led them to a hotel on West 45th St. and Eighth Ave. named the Row NYC. It used to be called the Milford Plaza and was a destination for upscale guests but was turned into a shelter for illegal immigrants in 2022, according to The Post. Police say the suspect had drugs in his possession and about $525 of stolen athletic wear.
This was not his first arrest, as he has been picked up by the NYPD six times in the past five months for other like offenses. He is believed to have arrived in the US in February 2023. The case will be prosecuted by the Bronx District Attorney’s Office to rectify any conflict of interest created by the victim being a member of the Manhattan DA’s office.
The lawyer works for Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, whose name is well-known in connection with President-elect Donald Trump’s falsified business records case. However, the case has been delayed indefinitely after Trump's election win. The office has been slammed over the past year or so for being soft on crime in the city, but prosecuting the now-president-elect to great extents.
