Andy Cohen was hosting the New Year's Eve event in Times Square for CNN, along with Anderson Cooper, when he went on an unexpected rant against outgoing NYC mayor Bill de Blasio.
Cohen, already visibly presenting signs of having ingested large quantities of alcohol, took yet another shot with Cooper, and said what he wanted to say:
"Let me tell you something," slurred Cohen. "Watching Mayor de Blasio."
"Oh, don't go on a rant" interjected Cooper, who was completely ignored by Cohen at this point. Cohen continued undaunted:
"Watching Mayor de Blasio do his victory lap dance after four years of the crappiest job as mayor of New York,"
"That's how you want to start the new year?" asked Cooper, who was once again ignored. Cohen was now shouting:
"The only thing Democrats and Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he has been, so, SAYONARA, SUCKER! 2022! It's a new year!"
"'Cause guess what? I have a feeling I'm going to be standing right here next year, and do you know what I'm not gonna be looking at? Dancing as the city comes apart."
Cohen on Saturday morning, hours later, took to Twitter in an effort to explain himself to the public, saying that he was "overserved."
