An activist ex-school superintendent who has worked with Antifa is attempting to oust conservative school board members in a district in Michigan.

As reported by Real News Michiana (RNM), the recall petition was filed by former Brandywine Superintendent John Jarpe. The petition stated that the ousting effort was in response to “a board meeting on 1-23-2023" where the minutes stated: "A ‘nay’ vote by Ms. McCombs (and three other members): Motion by Treasurer Brian Burge, support by Trustee Jessica Crouch that the board adjusts the agenda and moves the Hearing of Visitors to the beginning of the meeting. Roll call vote: Ayes – Treasurer Burge, Trustee Crouch. Nays – President Payne, Vice-President McKee, Trustee McCombs, Trustee Seastrom. Motion failed: 4-2.”

The board members Jarpe is attempting to recall include Michelanne McCombs, Elaine McKee, Thomas Payne and Angela Seastrom, per Leader Publications.

Under Michigan law, a recall petition can be made for any action taken by a school board regardless of the legality of the action and the petition needs to be factual, according to RNM. The documents obtained by the outlet show that they are trying to recall the conservative board member for voting to keep public comment at the end of their public meetings, which is the standard practice, per the outlet.

The board members, therefore, could be recalled due to mundane reasons such as using normal procedures. Former Superintendent Jarpe reportedly has worked with Antifa members to pressure and intimidate conservative board members since before they took office and has worked with Antifa activist Tonna Robinson to do so. Robinson is currently being investigated for assault with a deadly weapon, stemming from an attack at a drag show for kids in South Bend.

Jarpe has worked with Robinson as well as Brandywine English teacher Debra “Debbie” Carew and Cass County Communications Manager Ambrosia Nelddon, in order to intimidate conservative board members, per RNM. They have particularly taken an interest in opposing the more right-leaning board members' efforts to take explicit material out of school libraries and have attended nearly all school board meetings to voice their opposition. Jarpe, Neldon and Carew are part of a Facebook group called, “Brandywine Alumni, Parents, and Educators for Educational Freedom" with Robinson.
