“Squad” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has announced that there are plans to have “legal observer” trainings and “teach-ins” in New York City. This comes as there has been an ICE surge in Minnesota, as well as the shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, both of whom were impeding law enforcement at the time of their deaths.

During a recent town hall event, Ocasio Cortez was seen in footage from Freedom News TV saying, "There's the legal observer community, which is, if you see that ICE is active in your community, knowing the things that you can do legally, to observe, to film, to take notes, without being deemed as impeding law enforcement and how you do these things."

"We have upcoming teach-ins with Hands Off NYC, so we will be doing that in our community, but you can also go to Hands Off NYC on your own and see the trainings that they are doing across New York City," the left-wing lawmaker added.

Hands Off NYC is a left-wing activist group that also provides signs for anti-ICE activist businesses to post at their place of work.

She then called the shooting of both Good and Pretti "murders." Good was running her car into the ICE agent who shot her at the time. With Pretti, he was resisting arrest while armed but appeared to be disarmed in the chaos that was taking place before he got shot after a Border Patrol agent yelled that he had a gun.

To go against the Trump administration's immigration policies, Ocasio-Cortez said "we are building infrastructure to be prepared" for what will be coming. She made the comments as she gave a PowerPoint presentation that reviewed several current immigration laws as well as a slide that instructed everyone to "prepare" for ICE. The steps in that preparation included: "create a safety plan and proactively find legal help," "engage with local rapid response networks," "request a Know your Rights training from our office," as well as "fill out a DHS Privacy Release."

She then gave legal advice for illegal immigrants, saying that they should "find your legal help before anything happens" because "once ICE retains a person, they don't have the ability to get counsel, once they are detained."
