US President Donald Trump tweeted yesterday praising the National Guard for their excellent work in Kenosha and preventing further violence, closing the tweet with "Are you listening Portland?"

The President went on to say:

"I appreciate the governor calling and saying he wanted [the] National Guard. As you know, last night was very quiet, the night before wasn’t, and the reason it wasn't — they didn't have proper protection.

"The National Guard did a fantastic job. [White House chief of staff] Mark Meadows is here. We called up the National Guard, we sent it out, and they did a fantastic job last night. We had virtually no incident."

On Monday, 150 of the National Guard were deployed to Kenosha, Wisc. in response to escalating violence after a controversial police shooting on Sunday. A further 100 pairs of boots were sent to Kenosha the following day.

The violence in Kenosha has already led to 2 deaths and one serious injury, just as a result of the worst incident, involving Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17 year old gunman, who is now under arrest and possibly facing charges of first degree murder.

Disagreement exists as to whether Rittenhouse was acting in legitimate self defense or not.

Meanwhile, half a country away in Portland, the protests have now entered into their 94th straight day, with accompanying loss of life. The governor of Oregon has gone on record calling for an end to the protests.

Portland mayor Ted Wheeler hasn't as of yet reached out to either President Trump or his governor to take steps to do so, however.
