Following an "active standoff situation" and pursuit, the suspect who allegedly attempted to breech the FBI office in Cincinnati armed with a rifle and nail gun has been fatally shot by police.
At around 3:40 pm, the suspect was fatally shot by police after failed escalation attempts and attempts to bring him into custody, according to ABC News.
Law enforcement sources told the outlet that the suspect is 42-year-old Ricky Shiffer.
The incident began just after 9 am, after the suspect attempted to breech the FBI building’s visitor screening facility. After an alarm went off and special agents responded, the suspect fled north on I-71.

The suspect fled in a white Ford Crown Victoria, shooting at officers when they attempted to pull him over. The suspect also fired on officers at an overpass, before fleeing again.
Authorities closed down Interstate 71 in both directions between US 68 and State Route 73 in Clinton County, Ohio, and a lockdown was put into place within a one-mile radius around the intersection of Smith Road and Center Road.
The suspect was contained in a cornfield off I-71 near Wilmington, where officers said he had a gunshot would to the leg, according to ABC News.
After failed attempts at negotiating with the suspect, police began to move in to take the suspect into custody, Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The agency said that as officers attempted to make the arrest, he raised his firearm towards them. Law enforcement officers then fired at the suspect at around 3:40pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a Facebook post from Clinton County Emergency Management Agency, they advised that law enforcement operations and response in the area had ended, but noted that some portions of surrounding roads will remain closed.
