At least 6 hospitals vow to end child sex changes after Trump admin mandate

Multiple major hospital systems have reached agreements with the Trump administration to stop providing child sex changes to minors as part of settlements with the Department of Justice. The agreements require the hospitals to stop providing puberty blockers, hormones, and surgeries to children who identify as transgender.

The latest agreements involve New York University Langone Hospitals and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, two of the largest health care systems in the US. Under the agreements, the hospitals will pay a combined $9.45 million and cease child sex change procedures.

The settlements come as the Trump administration has taken steps since returning to office to limit health care providers from offering irreversible transgender procedures to children. Currently, 24 states allow such practices to occur.

On Friday, Attorney General Todd Blanche issued a statement saying that the DOJ is fighting to protect children.

“Today’s resolutions send a clear message: hospitals that target children in these practices and then fraudulently obtain payment for the procedures will be held to account,” Blanche said.

The settlements follow similar agreements made by the Mount Sinai Health System in New York, Texas Children’s Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and Connecticut Children’s Hospital.

“We appreciate that some of the nation’s largest and most prestigious hospital systems have agreed to cease harming minors under the guise of ‘gender-affirming care’ and agreed to pay for potential violations of federal law when they did so,” said Brett Shumate, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division. “But I want to be clear: our efforts and investigations into other providers are ongoing. Those that have broken the law and not resolved their potential liability will be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.”

The settlements have drawn criticism from left-wing activists. In Connecticut, several families filed a legal challenge against Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for ending transgender procedures for children. The hospital agreed last month to keep its gender clinic closed for a decade, pay the government $60,000, and provide support to patients seeking to detransition, according to The New York Times. A lawyer for the parents said in a statement that the agreement showed the hospital has “doubled down,” accusing the hospital of not providing medical care “without discrimination.”

Additionally, trans activists were seen outside NYU Langone Health injecting themselves with HRT in defiance of the hospital’s decision to stop providing trans services to children.
