A company that manages real estate locations in Aurora, Colorado that Tren de Aragua gang members beat one of their worker to a pulp when that worker refused to let them stay in a vacant apartment unit. The company says that "several" properties have been taken over by the Venezuelan gang as some in the media have downplayed the significance of the issue.

The real estate company, based out of Brooklyn, New York, said that Tren de Aragua has effectively taken over multiple complexes by threatening employees and extorting the company, demanding a share of the rent if CBZ Management keeps control over the apartments, the New York Post reported.

Local police as well as the FBI have been asked to help stop the extortion operation by the gang, however the authorities have refused to work on the situation, the company said. “In an attempt to discredit this fact for political purposes and avoid governmental accountability, some have spread false information about our situation," the company posted on X.

The company posted a thread to report on the circumstances, stating that they started managing several apartment complexes in 2019 around Aurora, Colorado. The company said that the properties were in bad shape when they were bought but then things picked up.

"Everything was progressing smoothly: property values were rising, and vacancy rates were dropping. It was a win-win for both the owners and the city of Aurora. Then, the gangs arrived," the company said.

The company posted that there was a "rise in crime and tenant complaints" and that the most "alarming moment occurred when our local CBZ representative was attacked at the end of 2023."

"He had gone to inspect a recently vacated three-bedroom apartment (a rare occurrence for such a large unit) only to find a group of men already inside. When he refused their $500 bribe to overlook the situation, they brutally attacked him," the company stated. CBZ Management posted video on its social media of the alleged beating. The employee then allegedly received threats from gang members.

Although the company has been subject to the predations of the gang at the complexes, CBZ Management has reportedly had issues of its own in terms of taking care of the properties. The mayor of Aurora labeled the managers of the property "slumlords" from out of state over the summer, around the time that the issue of the gangs gained national attention.

The owner of the complexes was forced to sell them earlier this year because of a lengthy legal battle against him and the company. However, CBZ Management accused the local government of Aurora of covering up the gang situation with "drummed up 'code violations'" to shift the blame onto CBZ Management. The company said that it got perfect inspections in 2022 and 2023 and that any violations were taken care of.

"Despite clear evidence, many still deny the reality of the situation, sometimes using us as scapegoats. That’s why we are no longer staying silent. We will continue to counter falsehoods with simple facts and evidence. Yes, gangs did take control of our apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado, and the government did nothing. That is the real story,” the company stated.

When the Post reached out to Aurora officials for comment, they did not respond. The FBI also did not respond when the outlet requested a comment.
