On Saturday, Florida police officers conducted a welfare check on a Port St. Lucie home and entered the residence after hearing a crying child, once inside they found a man and woman dead in an apparent murder-suicide.

According to Local WPTV news, the woman was a teacher at Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School located in Stuart, Florida and police believe she was in a romantic relationship with the man who was also found dead at the scene.

The baby was found crying in a crib within the home and was uninjured.

When police arrived at the home, in addition to the baby crying, the officers spotted what appeared to be two dead adult bodies near a sliding door at the rear of the home

Police did not release the name of either of the two dead adults publicly. Police did not release the names and cited Marsy's Law, a measure which says victims of crimes have co-equal rights as the accused and convicted.

A spokeswoman for the Martin County School District, Jennifer DeShazo, said to WPTV news that "one of our teachers was the victim" in the case.

Internally, the school's principal, Darcia Borel, sent a letter to staff saying that police confirmed that the victim was Amanda Hicks.

"Greetings, Dr. David L. Anderson team. It is with great sadness that we write to inform you about the tragic passing of one of our teachers, Ms. Amanda Hicks. The Port St. Lucie Police Department has confirmed that Ms. Hicks was the victim of a homicide. While words will never be enough to convey the shock and sadness this news has brought to our school family, it is more important than ever to come together to support one another through our grief journey," the statement read.
