“If you didn’t understand what I just said. You have four months to learn."
The Grammy-winning artist, who hosted and performed on SNL last night, is set to headline the halftime show at Super Bowl LX in February at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The show will be entirely in Spanish, reports Rolling Stone. The move has sparked complaints from some commentators and politicians.
Among those who took issue with the announcement were Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who both suggested that immigration enforcement agents could be present at the event.
“I have the responsibility for making sure everybody goes to the Super Bowl, has the opportunity to enjoy it and to leave, and that’s what America’s about,” Noem said on The Benny Show. “So yeah, we’ll be all over that place. We’re going to enforce the law.”
Noem added that “people should not be coming to the Super Bowl unless they’re law-abiding Americans who love this country,” appearing to suggest limits on attendance.
Bad Bunny responded to the controversy during his monologue on SNL, joking that “everyone is happy” about his halftime show — “even Fox News.” He then played a fast-cut montage of clips edited to make Fox hosts appear to say: “Bad Bunny. Is. My favorite. Musician. And he should be the next. President.”
He also addressed the fact that his performances are in Spanish, saying, “If you didn’t understand what I just said. You have four months to learn."
The rapper, who previously said his world tour skipped mainland US cities because of immigration policies under former President Donald Trump, hasn’t commented further on the political reaction.
