Baltimore police hunt suspects caught on video attacking 74-year-old man outside 7-Eleven

Baltimore police are searching for six suspects after surveillance video captured a group of young males attacking a 74-year-old man outside a 7-Eleven in broad view of the store’s entrance.

The assault happened around 3:24 am on Tuesday, July 7, outside the convenience store on Liberty Heights Avenue across from Mondawmin Mall, according to investigators. Police said one of the suspects displayed what appeared to be an assault-style rifle, while another weapon seen during the incident was a sword.

Security footage shows the elderly man standing near the entrance when two suspects approach him while appearing to display a firearm. Four more suspects then join the group, with the attackers shoving the man, throwing objects at him, and knocking him to the ground, reports CBS News.

The video shows the suspects continuing to strike and kick the man after he falls. Police said the group eventually left the scene after the attack, and the victim drove away in his Honda Odyssey. He was later treated for minor bruising.

Employees told WJZ Investigates the victim is a regular customer at the store. They said the location previously operated 24 hours a day but stopped doing so because of repeated violent incidents, particularly involving juveniles.

"He's tough for real. He's a G, basically. He could've run," said Tat Burch, a regular customer who lives in the area.

Employees said the store was closed at the time of the attack, but the victim may have thought it was open. They believe the incident may have been an attempted robbery.

"Who would do that? A person with no empathy, no heart," said Nicole Johnson, a store customer who works with city youth. "My grandfather passed away, but I have a grandmother, and I cannot imagine what she would have gone through, honestly."

The incident comes as Baltimore officials report a decline in homicides. The city has recorded 53 homicides so far in 2026, compared to 77 during the same period last year. Non-fatal shootings remain nearly unchanged, with 174 reported this year compared to 173 at the same point in 2025.
