A Barrie police officer has been charged after video of a violent arrest went viral online.
The officer, identified as Constable Jason Stamp, 46, was seen on video beating a man on the ground, and threatening to tase him. The man is then slammed onto the ground.
Officers say the man in the video was stopped because he skateboarded through a red light. CTV News Barrie reports that the man was ticketed, and skateboarded away while yelling profanities.
That's when the officers allegedly stopped the man again, and the incident that was caught on camera began.
Stamp has been charged with assault and assault with a weapon. He will appear in court in Barrie on June 7.
