Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was a "no" vote on confirming Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence under the Trump administration after praising her endorsement of him for president during his campaign run in 2016. Gabbard sacrificed her career in the Democratic Party to go out on a limb for Sanders, and in return, he refused to confirm her nomination

After giving up her position as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee, Gabbard did the talk show circuit and explained why she believed that Sanders was a better choice for the Party's nomination than President Barack Obama's then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"There is a clear contrast between our two candidates with regard to my strong belief that we must end the interventionist, regime change policies that have cost us so much. This is not just another issue. This is the issue, and it’s deeply personal to me," Gabbard said at the time.

Sanders was pleased with her endorsement, saying "Congresswoman Gabbard is one of the important voices of a new generation of leaders. As a veteran of the Iraq War she understands the cost of war and is fighting to create a foreign policy that not only protects America but keeps us out of perpetual wars that we should not be in."

In a vote on the Senate floor on Wednesday, Sanders did not return the favor for the former Hawaii congresswoman. This betrayal earned Sanders harsh words from former supporters.

Former Democrat operative Evan Barker spoke out against Sanders, saying "You voted ‘no’ on Tulsi Gabbard today. And I gotta say something to you, because I supported you. I voted for you. I backed you, I canvassed for you. And you voted against Tulsa Gabbard, a woman who did the same. In fact, she did so much more. She basically sacrificed her future and her career in the Democratic Party to back you. And today you voted against her, and for what? Because the Democrats have continued to perpetuate a smear invented by Hillary Clinton that was hoisted upon her because she dared do what was right at the time and back you over Hillary Clinton? Shame on you, Bernie Sanders. I'm breaking up with you forever. Like, forever. We're never, ever getting back together, ever."

The Liberatarian Free State Project of New Hampshire also condemned the Senator, saying that "Bernie Sanders has no honor. His vote against Tulsi Gabbard has proved that.

Kash Patel, who faces his own confirmation vote in the Senate to become head of the FBI under the Trump administration, shared the video that Gabbard shared back in 2016 during which Gabbard announced her resignation as vice chair from the party that tanked Sanders' candidacy for president in favor of Clinton, who would go on to lose to Trump.

Gabbard was confirmed with votes from every Rebpublican Senator while every Democrat voted against the former Democrat congresswoman from Hawaii.
