"We absolutely failed to live up to the expectations that we set, so next time we win power, we're going to drive that car like we stole it."
Former Representative Beto O’Rourke vowed to push for open borders and mass amnesty if Democrats retake control of the White House and Congress, telling supporters the party should “drive the car like we stole it” the next time it holds power.
Speaking Saturday at “The People vs. The Power Grab,” a rally opposing Republican-led redistricting efforts in Texas, O’Rourke said Democrats should go beyond traditional “comprehensive immigration reform.”
"We absolutely failed to live up to the expectations that we set, so next time we win power, we're going to drive that car like we stole it,” O’Rourke said.
“We're going to legalize every DREAMer, every DREAMer's parents, every hardworking American doing backbreaking work that makes this country so goddamn great in the first place, even greater as US citizens,” he continued. “Don't let them fool you. They're gonna try to tell you that we're on different pages about this, that we don't support the law -- that's crazy.”
He further urged Democrats to adopt a more aggressive approach, saying, “Imagine a Democratic Party that actually fights for these things, that doesn't submit, that doesn't bend the knee, that doesn't roll over, that doesn't give up before the fight has even begun.”
O’Rourke’s remarks came as a judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking him from fundraising for Texas Democrats who fled the state in 2021 to stall a vote on a new congressional district map. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued O’Rourke and his group, Powered by People, accusing them of "unlawful fundraising activity, including potentially operating a misleading financial-influence scheme to fund runaway Democrats who fled Texas to break quorum.”
