Today on Fox News, the news broke that Alejandro Mayorkas and the Department of Homeland Security are recruiting volunteers from within governmental ranks in order to head to the border to clean up after the illegal immigrants and pick up their trash.
"They want people to volunteer to pick up garbage along the border. I don't know how you define that job," America's Newsroom host Bill Hemmer said while talking with co-host Dana Perino and Former Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf.
On Twitter, Fox News at Night producer Sean Langille wrote, "NEW: Fox News confirms @DHSgov has asked for volunteers from every single US Government Department and Agency to deploy to the Southern Border to support migrants for assignments lasting 60 days- via @GillianHTurner." Correspondent Gillian Turner broke the story on America's Newsroom With Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino.
As local news has reported there is a "staggering amount of trash" along the border, such as in places like Eagle Pass, Texas. Illegal immigrants dump a variety of personal and sundry items as they enter Customs and Border Protection (CPD) for processing.
According to the Guardian, the items range from used diapers to soiled and moldy clothing, all dumped and discarded as they enter CPD.
As a solution, the Department of Homeland Security under Mayorkas is seeking out Defense Department volunteers to help clean up after the illegal immigrants.
Dana Perino said she was "shocked" by the request.
Former Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf said it "infuriates" him, especially as the move is doing nothing to solve the problem. Wolf said that some of the volunteers are also going to help process the vast number that are arriving at America's southern border.
Biden's border crisis has seen a record-high number of illegal immigrants pouring into the country, with 1.7 encounters in the 2021 fiscal year and over 2.1 million in 2022.
That figure accounts for encounters with Border Agents and there are another estimated 600,000 others who made it into the US and simply got away.
