The White House has declined Thursday's request by Russian President Vladimir Putin to have a live debate by video chat, with Press Secretary Jen Psaki saying President Biden is "quite busy".
Putin's call for a debate comes after Biden called him a "killer" in an interview with George Stephanopoulos Wednesday, with Russia recalling its Washington DC ambassador until Biden apologizes for the comment, the New York Post reports.
Psaki assured in a press conference Thursday that despite the comments made, Russia and America are continuing to work together.
"We are confident that we can continue to look for ways where there’s a mutual interest – mutual national interest... But the president is not going to hold back, clearly, when he has concerns, whether it is with words or actions.” Psaki said.
"I don’t have anything to report to you in terms of a future meeting. The president will, of course, be in Georgia tomorrow and quite busy?,” Psaki said in response to the calls for a meeting. She also adds that Putin and Biden have already met once in January "even as there are more world leaders that he has not yet engaged with.”
