Cherry, a male who wears makeup and women's clothing, was hired last week to be the White House's top climate communications aide after previously serving as Biden's Interior communications director under Secretary Deb Haaland, Politico reports.
The new communications director has sparked controversy in recent years over several of his social media posts.
Last year, Cherry came under fire after a resurfaced post on X, formerly Twitter, revealed that he has a severe distaste for law enforcement, in which he referred to police agencies as "slave patrols" and "lynch mobs."
"Praying for #Baltimore, but praying even harder for an end to a capitalistic police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial biases," Cherry wrote on X in 2015, referring to the death of Freddie Gray, a black man who died in Baltimore police custody, which sparked riots.
A few months later, Cherry posted: "Time to recall that the modern day police system is a direct evolution of slave patrols and lynch mobs."
He then proclaimed that he "ruined" his Thanksgiving by fighting with his uncle "about police brutality and systemic racism."
In 2018, Cherry called for Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) to be abolished, just years before President Biden took over the White House and enacted open border policies, resulting in a historic illegal immigration crisis that has desecrated American cities.
Additionally, the new communications director, who minored in gender studies, is a radical LGBTQ activist who has promoted the controversial gender identity movement. He has also posted numerous sexual-style photos wearing makeup and women's clothing while posing with other men.
In 2014, Cherry wrote on X that fairness means "asking folks their preferred gender pronouns instead of assuming."
In 2017, Cherry spread the RussiaGate hoax and claimed that former President Donald Trump won in 2016 because of white supremacy. In 2019, former Special Counsel Robert Mueller issued a comprehensive report that largely cleared former President Donald Trump of any involvement in a conspiracy with Russia during the 2016 election, following a multi-year investigation.

After Cherry's controversial tweets resurfaced, a White House spokesperson told The Advocate: "Tyler is an invaluable member of our team who continues to deliver for the Department of Interior and the American people."
"No one should be targeted simply for being themselves. It is cruel and unacceptable," the spokesperson added. "This is an administration that believes to our core in the principle that out of many we are one - and we are proud that people who serve in it reflect those values as well."
On Sunday, Cherry defended himself on X and wrote: "Past social media posts from when I was younger do not reflect my current views. Period. I support this Administration's agenda - and will continue my communications work focused on our climate and environmental policies."
After his social media posts were publicized, Cherry deleted them.
