The depositions will attempt to uncover "the extent to which President Biden is personally carrying out the duties of his office and whether he is capable of doing so."
The House Oversight Committee, chaired by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), subpoenaed three Biden White House staffers this week for depositions as to what they know about how much of the work of the presidency Biden is actually doing and how much has been outsourced to aides. The depositions will attempt to uncover "the extent to which President Biden is personally carrying out the duties of his office and whether he is capable of doing so."
The staffers, Rep. James Comer said, have reportedly "created 'a protective bubble around' President Biden and he is 'staffed so closely that he’s lost all independence.'" The subpoenas were issued to Ashley Williams, Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Oval Office Operations; Annie Tomasini, Deputy Chief of Staff; and Anthony Bernal, Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor to the First Lady.
Each was sent to Edward Siskel, the Assistant to the President and the White House Counsel, each letter read, "This subpoena is issued pursuant to Rule XI.2(m)(1)(B) of the Rules of the House of Representatives and Rule 12(g) of the Oversight Committee's rules" or the rules that allow the Oversight Committee to issue subpoenas.
"Subsequent to the President's 'disastrous' debate performance in June, officials in the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the White House have voiced concerns about the President's ability to lead the country. Recent reporting has revealed a White House in disarray, and one former Biden aide has said that 'Annie [Tomasini], Ashley [Williams] and Anthony [Bernal] create a protective bubble around' President Biden, and the President is 'staffed so closely that he's lost all independence,'" the letter read.
The subpoenas from the Oversight Committee comes after there has been increasing pressure from Democrats in the party to have Joe Biden step aside. Among them is George Clooney, a Democrat donor who held a fundraiser for the incumbent president and recently released an op-ed in the New York Times even took the time to reach out to Barack Obama before it was published.
