Biden's DOJ under fire after Vivek Ramaswamy brings suit to compel release of Trump indictment

“My aim in bringing this lawsuit is to finally deliver accountability and transparency."

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy announced a lawsuit against President Joe Biden’s Justice Department and filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) records request to gain information regarding the recent indictments of former President Donald Trump.

“My aim in bringing this lawsuit is to finally deliver accountability and transparency: what did Biden and his cronies tell [Attorney General Merrick] Garland and what did Garland and the deep-staters who put him in as Attorney General tell [special counsel] Jack Smith," Ramaswamy said in a statement from his campaign obtained by The Hill.

Tuesday evening, Trump, the current 2024 Republican frontrunner for the nomination was indicted on charges related to alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election by Special Counsel Jack Smith in connection with the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election and the riot at the US Capitol on January 6.

Ramaswamy added that the indictments against Trump “selectively omit relevant facts and law,” noting “the corrupt federal police won’t stop until they’ve achieved their mission: eliminate Trump.”

In June, Ramaswamy’s campaign filed the FOIA request asking for “documents and records in DOJ’s possession related to the decision to bring a federal criminal indictment” against the former president after Trump was indicted for his handling of classified materials.

According to Ramaswamy’s complaint, “The Campaign accordingly brings this suit to compel DOJ to immediately respond to the Campaign’s FOIA request and promptly disclose all responsive, non-exempt records.” His campaign added that he is filing an additional FOIA request for similar records relating to the most recent indictment.

Following news of the latest indictment on Tuesday against Trump, Ramaswamy posted a defense of the former president, remarking that the indictment by the Biden DOJ marks a "sad moment in our country's history," as it is an example of a "politicized prosecution" in addition to a "political persecution."
