"We affirm the United States’ commitment to promoting and protecting the human rights of Intersex persons globally."
"Today in celebration and recognition of Intersex Awareness Day," the State Department 's Matt Miller said, "we affirm the United States’ commitment to promoting and protecting the human rights of Intersex persons globally.
"As President Biden stated in his 2021 Memorandum on Advancing the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons Around the World," Miller continued, "it is the policy of the United States to pursue an end to violence and discrimination on the bases of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and sex characteristics."
Intersex persons are born with both male and female sex organs or other sex characteristics. In practical terms, an intersex person is born with only one set of gonads, which are either internal, such as ovaries, or external, such as testes. One in about 2,000 persons are born intersex. The biological distinction was adopted by LGBTQIA+ activists in large part because it is a biological condition, which other designations in the ever-evolving anagram are not.
The existence of intersex persons is often used to justify other, more amorphous sex and gender identities. A flag was created to represent the tiny portion of people who are born with this condition, and intersex people have said outright that they do not want to be used as part of the justification for other conditions. The "I" in LGBTQIA+ stands for intersex. Traditionally, western doctors have attempted to remedy the intersex condition by essentially choosing one or another sex for a child's genitals in the event that they are born with both external sex organs. Often, this was done without parental consent.
"Intersex persons often face stigma and discrimination in accessing education," Miller went on, "healthcare, and legal recognition, and are subjected to medically unnecessary surgeries. These harmful practices, which can cause lifelong negative physical and emotional consequences, are a medical form of so-called conversion therapy practices in that they seek to physically 'convert' Intersex children into non-Intersex children. We applaud all activists, organizations and governments working to raise visibility and protect Intersex persons’ rights to bodily integrity and to ensure equal protection and recognition before the law."
The Biden White House has been obsessed with sex and gender since Biden took office in 2021. On his first day in the Oval, Biden signed an executive order, followed by many more along the same lines, requiring every agency of the federal government to engage in the strengthening of LGBTQIA positions through whatever ways their specfic agency could come up with. Apparently, for the State Department this means drafting pointless statements about people born with sexual abnormalities.
Many took issue with the State Department's use of time and resources to honor those born with this genital abnormality and state their dedication to fighitng against discrimination on their behalf.
