A $2,500 reward has been announced for information that leads to the suspect’s arrest.
Police have revealed that blood was found in the Arizona home of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, who has been missing since Sunday. Authorities believe that the case is one of a "possible kidnapping or abduction."
Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that blood, as well as signs of forced entry and a struggle, have been found in the Catalina Hills home. It is unclear who the blood belonged to. Nanos said on Monday that DNA evidence at the scene is being analyzed by investigators.
Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday, after she returned from dinner the night before. "At this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will, possibly [in the] middle of the night," said Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Kevin Adger. "Detectives are looking into a possible kidnapping or abduction."
A $2,500 reward has been announced for information that leads to the suspect’s arrest. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said, speaking directly to whoever is responsible, "Just call us. Let her go. Just call us. The family will tell you, there’s no questions asked here. We don’t need another bad, tragic ending."
Guthrie’s family was alerted on February 1 at 12:15 pm when she didn’t turn up for church. When the family went to her home, they did not find her inside. Her belongings, including her purse, wallet, and vehicle, were at the house. She reportedly is in frail health, as limited mobility, and is without the daily medications she requires. A Safe Alert describes Guthrie as being 5 foot 4 inches tall, 150 pounds, and having brown hair and blue eyes.
Savannah Guthrie asked her followers on Monday for prayers, writing on Instagram, "we believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him. Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. We need you. 'He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.' A verse of Isaiah for all time for all of us. Bring her home.
