Mark Anthony Austin, who played Boba Fett during the 1990s, had harsh words for Disney's new policy of no longer referring to Fett's iconic spaceship from "Star Wars" as "Slave 1", its original name since the early 1980s.
Austin, whose role as Boba Fett consisted of acting in new scenes re-inserted twenty years later into 1977's "Episode Four: A New Hope" original film of the series, recently stated in a series of Tweets:
"I cannot put into words how much I love this spaceship. It’s like Han has Chewie. I’ve always had Slave 1. You cannot just change that."
"When applying for personalized plates for my car the DMV would not allow 'Slave1'. Okay I understand. Had to try. But I get it."
"This Disney idiocy however. Not buying. not conforming to the Mouse, no siree [sic]. Not gonna happen."
"When I was growing up I loved Disney. No more."
"My ship will forever be Slave 1. Nothing. Not even Disney can or will change that. This is the way."
According to the Daily Wire, Disney quietly dropped the "Slave 1" name for Boba Fett's spaceship, without announcement, and without any comment whatsoever.
Austin appears convinced that the name-drop happened for political reasons, and, considering Disney's recent history of promoting "woke" politics and going for peak political correctness, there is a possibility that he is right.
For example, Disney is also famous for having cancelled one of the star players in its widely successful spin-off series, "The Mandalorian", MMA star and actress Gina Carano, for a series of tweets that they considered to be offensive.
