Body of newborn baby found in Hamilton basement, parents arrested

Post mortem will take place over the coming days to determine the cause of death, police said.

The body of a newborn baby was found in a Hamilton couple's basement, city police said in a statement released Friday morning.

Police say that they received information on February 24 of suspicious circumstances at a residence on Wellington Street North and Wilson Street.

Police went to the address at 104 Wellington Street North, where what appears to be a body of an infant was found. The body is believed to be of a newborn.

Post mortem will take place over the coming days to determine the cause of death, police said.

Nathan O’Brien, 34 and Winnie Ensor, 24 of Hamilton have been charged with Criminal negligence cause death and Interfering with a dead body.

The Hamilton Police continue to investigate the incident and anyone with information that could assist Police are asked to call Detective Ebert at 905-546-4167.
