Authorities say the stabbing occurred following a car accident.
Four people were injured in a stabbing attack Sunday in Annandale, Virginia, near I-495 at Little River Turnpike. Authorities said the violence broke out following a crash. The suspect was shot by police.
“SEVERAL PEOPLE STABBED ON THE BELTWAY WITH SHOTS FIRED BY VIRGINIA STATE POLICE: Outer loop of I-495 at Little River Turnpike in Annandale, VA— a suspect is down after shots were reportedly fired by Virginia State Police,” DMVLive wrote in a post on X.
“At least FOUR victims have been stabbed on the Beltway; two are reported in critical condition,” the post added.
An unverified report from an alleged eyewitness of the incident posted to the Northern Virginia Reddit page that the suspect "drove up from behind and smashed car in left lane, approx 70mph, car crosses 4 lanes to pull over on shoulder, guy continues following him and smashing into him.
"We drove past at this point but presumably next steps were them getting out and guy initiating the stabbing. It was truly insane and terrifying even when we didn’t yet know about the stabbing."
Virginia State Police have not released details about what led to the roadway shutdown, according to WUSA. A spokesperson told the outlet he could not confirm information about “the incident on the Beltway.”
Video from the scene posted to social media show an air ambulance arriving on the scene.
Officials have not provided a timeline for reopening the roadway, and no additional details have been released. This is a breaking news story. Refresh for updates.
