All charges against professional golfer Scottie Scheffler, following his arrest outside the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club earlier this month, have officially been dropped.

Scheffler was arrested on May 17 after allegedly attempting to bypass traffic by driving on the median. When a police officer attempted to stop, he reportedly continued, leading to his arrest.

The golfer faced charges including third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree assault of a police officer, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. However, during a court hearing on Wednesday, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell announced that prosecutors could not proceed with the case, according to CNN.

"Based upon the totality of the evidence, my office can not move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr. Scheffler," O'Connell said. He further explained that Scheffler's claim of a "big misunderstanding" was supported by the evidence.

"The evidence we reviewed supports the conclusion that Detective [Brian] Gillis was concerned for public safety at the scene when he initiated contact with Mr. Scheffler. However, Mr. Scheffler's actions and the evidence surrounding their exchange during this misunderstanding do not satisfy the elements of any criminal offenses."

Jefferson County District Court Judge Anne Delahanty dismissed the case with prejudice. Scheffler was not required to be present at the hearing.
