Professional golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested after he allegedly attempted to avoid traffic caused by an earlier accident to get to the PGA Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, Scheffler was trying to get to the course by driving on the median. A police officer told him to stop, and he did not. One officer then attached himself to Scheffler's vehicle and the pro-golfer stopped, he was taken out of the car and handcuffed.

Video that Darlington took records the police officer telling the reporter, "You need to get out of the way," the officer told Darlington. "Right now, he's going to jail, and there's nothing you can do about it."

Scheffler faces charges of third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree assault of a police officer, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, the pro golfer was released from jail at 8:40 am and headed to the golf course.

There was a crash earlier in the day near the course, causing the police presence and traffic that Scheffler reportedly attempted to avoid and drive around.

Scheffler later made a statement after the incident after being released.

"This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do," Scheffler said. "I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I'm hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today. Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective."

He arrived at Valhalla less than an hour prior to when he was scheduled to tee off and reportedly had a plate of eggs after greeting everyone.
