Moreno was endorsed by Donald Trump.
Bernie Moreno has won the Ohio GOP Senate primary and will go on to compete in the general election in November. The election was called for the Trump-endorsed Moreno, who beat out Matt Dolan and Frank LaRose.
Moreno was also endorsed by Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan and Senator JD Vance. Trump rallied with Moreno on Saturday at a rally in the Buckeye State, as well. That rally spurred controversy when Trump's comments about the US auto industry were taken out of context by mainstream media and Democrats alike.
Moreno ran on a platform of energy independence, and has never held elected office. He will face Democrat incumbent Sherrod Brown in November.
Moreno has never before held elected office.
“We will spend this campaign contrasting my position on taking on Wall Street, my position on taking on the drug companies, my position on trade with theirs,” Moreno told reporters on Monday.
In the final days of his campaign, Moreno was forced to battle a controversy related to allegations that he used an adult hookup website.
The allegations that he used "Adult Friend Finder" were unfounded according to company founder Andrew Conru.
