President Joe Biden spoke to the nation on Tuesday afternoon to announce that there has been a ceasefire agreed to between Israel and Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, which controls portions of the country. The fighting across the Lebanese-Israeli border, Biden said, will end at 4 am on Wednesday morning. He said that this would be a permanent ceasefire. The conflict began when Palestinian terror group Hamas invaded Israel on October 7, 2023, and murdered 1,200 men, women and children. Hezbollah instantly joined the war on the side of their fellow terrorists as Israel fought for their existence.

Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure, he said, will not be able to be rebuilt. "This conflict will not just be another cycle of violence," Biden said, going on to say that France would be working with the US to make sure that the hostilities do not continue. He said the "necessary assistance" would be provided to make sure that the deal is "implemented fully and effectively."

"Let me be clear, anyone else breaks the deal and poses a direct threat to Israel, and Israel retains the right to self-defense consistent with international law, just like any country when facing a terrorist group pledge of that country's destruction the same time," Biden said. "This deal supports Lebanon sovereignty, and so it heralds a new start for Lebanon, a country that I've seen most of over the years, a country with rich history and culture, if fully implemented, this deal can put Lebanon on a path toward a future that's worthy of a significant past."

Biden also spoke to the need for a ceasefire in Gaza, saying "Just as the Lebanese people deserve a future of security and prosperity, so do the people of Gaza, they too, deserve an end of the fighting and displacement. The people of Gaza have been through hell. Their world is absolutely shattered. Far too many civilians and gods have suffered far too much, and I must choose for months and months to negotiate a good faith cease fire and a hostage deal." Hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023, are still being held in Gaza by terrorists.

"Over the coming days," Biden continued, "the United States will make another push for Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Israel and others to achieve a cease fire in Gaza, the hostages released at the end of the war without Hamas in power, that it becomes possible as for the broader Middle East region, today's announcement brings us closer to realizing affirmative agenda that I've been pushing forward during my entire presidency, a vision for the future of Middle East, which said peace and prosperous and integrated across borders, future where Palestinians have a state of their own, one that fulfills this people's legitimate aspirations, one that cannot threaten Israel or hard groups with backing from Iran."

Biden promised that "peace is possible."
