Joe Biden had a "cancerous tissue" removed on February 16, the Physician to the President said on Friday.

In a statement from Kevin O'Connor, D.O., he announced that the president had a "skin lesion" on his chest removed at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC, which was later tested and found to be basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer.

"All cancerous tissue was successfully removed," the statement reads.

According to the physician, basal cell carcinoma lesions do not tend to "spread or metastasize," as some more dangerous cancers such as a melanoma may.

"They do, however, have the potential to increase in size, resulting in a more significant issue as well as increased challenges for surgical removal," he noted.

O'Connor added that the site of the biopsy "has healed nicely, and the President will continue dermatologic surveillance as part of his ongoing comprehensive healthcare."
