Moments after the House of Representatives voted to pass a resolution formalizing the impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, he released his response.

The president called the inquiry "baseless," and rather than addressing Republicans' concerns about his actions, accused them of preventing his administration from taking action to solve the crisis at the southern border, in addition to failing to deliver for the nations of Ukraine and Israel. Biden also charged that the Republicans are driving the US towards a government shutdown.

"The American people need their leaders in Congress to take action on important priorities for the nation and world," Biden began.

"We have to address the situation at our southern border, and I am determined to try to fix the problem," Biden said later on in his statement. "We need funding to strengthen border security, but Republicans in Congress won’t act to help."

"Instead of doing anything to help make Americans' lives better, they are focused on attacking me with lies," he said. "Instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts."

He concluded by stating that Americans "deserve better."

The House voted 221 to 212, with all Republicans voting in favor and all Democrats voting against.

HR 918 directs "certain committees to continue their ongoing investigations as part of the existing House of Representatives inquiry into whether sufficient grounds exist for the House of Representatives to exercise its Constitutional power to impeach Joseph Biden, President of the United States of America, and for other purposes."

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
