"President Biden has agreed to step down as the Democratic nominee. It will happen as early as this weekend," Mark Halperin said.
A report from Mark Halperin on X has stated that President Joe Biden has agreed to step out of the presidential race, would endorse an open convention, and will not endorse Vice President Kamala Harris. Mark Halperin, who spoke about his assertions on Newsmax, cited unnamed sources that Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race could come as early as Sunday. This comes after intense public and private pressure on the president and continuous reports that he trails in the polls.
After Halperin's reporting, the Biden camp's TJ Ducklo told Fox News Digital's Brooke Singman that the report is "entirely inaccurate." Singman reported that another aid told her that "The President is more committed than ever to winning this election."
“According to my sources, President Biden has agreed to step down as the Democratic nominee. It will happen as early as this weekend," Halperin added.
"BREAKING NEWS," Halperin posted. "Multiples sources outline the apparent state of play on Biden at this time: * plans to announce withdrawal from nomination as early as this weekend, with Sunday most likely * Jon Meacham polishing up remarks * Biden with NOT resign the presidency * Biden will NOT endorse Harris * open convention with Harris and about 3 others * super delegates will not be allowed to vote on 1st ballot * Harris is vetting at least four possible running mates, including Andy Beshear and possibly Shapiro."
Halperin went further to say that he would continue to discuss these revelations, including "1. What Nancy Pelosi wants to have happen when and if Joe Biden gives up the nomination. 2. Why people shouldn’t be so sure that Kamala Harris wants the presidential nomination if Biden steps aside. 3. What to expect from Donald Trump’s acceptance speech and from Team Trump in the days ahead."
Pressure has been building from within the Democrat Party for Biden to step out of the presidential race. Top Dems including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and former President Barack Obama have all reportedly urged the president to drop out of the race and allow for a new candidate to take his place. Biden's team has been reaching out to donors and politicians to let them know that he is fit to serve, yet after the debate against Donald Trump on June 27, many remain unconvincable.
Biden said on Wednesday in an interview with BET that he would step out of the race if a medical condition came to light that forced him to step down. Then he was diagnosed with Covid and cancelled all of his remaining campaign events in Nevada.
