As pressure from top Dems encouraging Joe Biden drop out of the presidential race continues to mount, a new voice has entered the chorus, that of Biden's former boss, former President Barack Obama. According to a new report from the Washington Post, Obama has "told allies" that perhaps Biden does not have a path to victory and ought to reconsider his plan to seek a second term in the White House.

Obama, who has only talked to Biden once since his disastrous debate against former president Donald Trump on June 27, has been reportedly more candid with others in the party about his thoughts for Biden's campaign. Obama is apparently worried about Biden's legacy. Others have said, on condition of anonymity, that how Biden chooses now marks the difference between a good legacy and a devastating one.

"His choice is to be one of history's heroes, or to be sure of the fact that there'll never be a Biden presidential library," a friend of Biden told Axios. "I pray that he does the right thing. He's headed that way."

Obama has spoken to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has offered her concerns about Biden's candidacy, as well as other "anxious Democrats," WaPo reports. "A spokesperson for Obama declined to comment," they said.

The report from the Washington Post was read out on Fox News, notably the first section, which read: "Former president Barack Obama has told allies in recent days that President Biden’s path to victory has greatly diminished and he thinks the president needs to seriously consider the viability of his candidacy, according to multiple people briefed on his thinking."

Pundits on Fox discussed that Obama has even led Biden off stage during events, which "showed the world" the extent of Biden's frailty." That frailty has been much discussed in the weeks since the debate where Biden had trouble finishing sentences and at times appeared not to make any sense at all, such as when he said he was fighting Medicaid.

That frailty became even more pronounced in recent days when Trump took a bullet during an assassination attempt, rose to tell the crowd "fight, fight, fight!" and headed to the Republican National Convention without disrupting his schedule. Biden came down with Covid in Nevada and abandoned all his campaign events in that state.

When Biden campaigned in 2020, also under the shadow of Covid, he spent much of his time in his Delaware home where a studio office had been constructed for him in the basement. Jokes were made during that time period that while Trump was out campaigning and running the country, Biden was sequestered from the public in his basement. Concerns were raised that perhaps Biden didn't have the stamina to run, but they were all dismissed as conspiracy theories.

Biden reportedly said on Wednesday that if he were discovered to have a "medical condition" he would consider stepping aside, but that it wasn't his intention to do so. Only hours later, he was reported to have come down with the pesky coronavirus, which he used for years to advocate for lockdowns, vaccine mandates, and drastic changes to American social life. The president, per the White House, is both vaccinated and "boosted."
