In responding to reporters today, President Biden was asked about the violence in the middle east. As over the past few days tensions have erupted into conflict between Israel and Palestinians.
Earlier today it was reported that last month the Biden administration had announced $235 million in aid to the Palestinians.
It’s worth noting the USA was the only “NO” vote in a UN Security Council statement that would’ve called for peace between the warring factions. This is in contrast to the vows of de-escalation promised by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
Biden said his national security people were in constant contact with “all” their middle eastern counterparts, saying “not just” Israel. However the President assures that he did have a conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.
He hoped the conflict would subside “sooner rather than later.”
"Israel has a right to defend itself when you have thousands of rockets flying into your territory," President Biden remarked.
When it comes to the Colonial Pipeline shutdown, Biden said he’s in close contact with the people involved in that situation. He promised good news within the next 24 hours. This in response to American east coast gas stations running out of fuel and declaring a state of emergency. Biden said he lifted restrictions on fuel and called in military resources to get wherever it’s “badly needed.”
One of the main supply lines for American fuel was disrupted late last week after a ransomware cyber attack hit the pipeline company’s systems. In response, Biden says "I think we have to make a greater investment in education as it relates to being able to train and graduate more people proficient in cyber security."
Biden said America is no longer number one in innovation in the world and that the US workforce is currently uneducated.
