In a speech on Tuesday, Biden declared that "we stand with Israel," and said that the US is "surging additional military assistance including ammunition and interceptors to replenish the Iron Dome." He took no questions at the end.

"We’re gonna make sure that Israel does not run out of these critical assets to defend its cities and its citizens."

Biden said that Americans are confirmed to be among those being taken hostage, adding that "I’ve directed my team to share intelligence and deploy additional experts from across the United States government to consult with and advise Israeli counterparts, hostage recovery and recovery efforts, because as President, I have no higher priority than the safety of Americans being held hostage around the world."

Biden added that the US has "enhanced our military force posture in the region to strengthen our deterrence," and that the USS Gerald Ford carrier strike group has been moved into the eastern Mediterranean.

"Any country, any organization anyone thinking of taking advantage of the situation? I have one word: Don't."

A post on X released by Biden ahead of his speech revealed that he and other US officials sat for a virtual talk with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "to discuss coordination to support Israel, deter hostile actors, and protect innocent people."

Biden revealed that 14 Americans have now been pronounced dead as a result of the killings.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
