BREAKING: Conservatives call on Trudeau to take fast action to help Canadian small businesses

"It's been almost a month since our government shut down businesses, and businesses have not received a single penny in emergency funding," said Poilievre.

Conservative Party's Shadow Minister of Finance Pierre Poilievre called for more swift support to small businesses on Monday from the Trudeau government.

Poilievre lambasted the timeline for small business aide, saying the four-week timeline set by Finance Minister Bill Morneau doesn't meet the standards of countries like Germany and the United States, who have already sent financial aide to their businesses.

"It's been almost a month since our government shut down businesses, and businesses have not received a single penny in emergency funding," said Poilievre.

Poilievre announced a proposition that the government allow small and medium businesses to receive their salary aide from banks and credit unions.

The proposition works as follows, says Poilievre: Next week, bank and credit unions supply loans to small businesses, lifting the limit from $40,000 for businesses to increase spending on wages. Businesses would then pay back the banks as soon as the wage subsidy arrives from the Canada Revenue Agency.

Poilievre called the proposition "practical and simple," and beleives that it would get money into the hands of small business owners within 48 to 72 hours.

Poilievre pointed to the likes of Singapore as an example of a country which is thriving economically, and one that he pays close attention to. Poilievre said that it was Singapore's small government and low taxes that allow them to prosper, hoping that Canada could unleash similar economic might by allowing entrepreneurs to prosper by removing regulation barriers.

"Our entrepreneurs know far better than any politician or bureaucrat about how to innovate and delivery better products and services to their customers and better jobs to their workers."
