Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a post on X, "We have indicted the two alleged ISIS-inspired terrorists who attempted to bomb a protest in New York City. We will not allow ISIS’s poisonous, anti-American ideology to threaten this nation. Our law enforcement officers will remain vigilant."
Accused terrorist Emir Balat, 18, as well as 19-year-old Ibrahim Kayumi were arrested by law enforcement over the weekend after they were seen on video throwing what law enforcement has determined to be IEDs. According to a complaint it the case, Kayumi blurted out the “ISIS” had been the reason for the alleged crime.
Balat also told authorities that he had pledged his allegiance to ISIS. When officers asked Balat what he was trying to do, and if it would be something similar to the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, Balat replied, “No, even bigger. It was only three deaths."
Balat was also seen flashing the universal ISIS salute as he was being led outside a police precinct on Monday morning, per the New York Post. Balat was seen pointing to the sky with his right index finger, which is the universal salute for ISIS, and smiling at the press while being walked along in shackles by the police. He made the gesture before his hand was swatted down by a police officer.
Balat as well as Kayumi were taken into custody on Saturday after there was a "Mother of Satan" bomb was thrown at an anti-Muslim taking place in NYC near the Gracie Mansion. Balat was also seen yelling on video, "Allahu Akbar" as he threw the explosive device.

The homemade IED consisted of a sports drink bottle, fuse, as well as volatile explosive material TATP that was surrounded by nuts and bolts. After it was thrown, the device failed to detonate.
