52 percent of registered American voters said they would back the former president in a hypothetical repeat match-up between White House rivals Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Only 42 percent went for Biden in a new poll out by ABC News and Washington Post. This marks a massive 10-point lead for Trump.

ABC News reported that Trump's share of support is up 3 percent since a previous survey in February, while Biden is down to points.

The outlet said numerous factors could explain Biden's poor showing in the polls, including his lackluster performance ratings, widespread discontent regarding the American economy, the illegal immigration crisis at the US border, and concerns surrounding his old age.

Trump has only risen in popularity, especially as various criminal indictments launched against the former president have energized his base, with many believing they are intended to be a form of political persecution.

ABC News notably did not mention the stark difference in polling between Trump and Biden in the first headline for its survey; the initial publishing was simply titled, "Troubles for Biden not just his age in reelection campaign: POLL."

Other notable insights from the poll include that Biden captured only 50 percent support of minority groups, whereas ABC/Washington Post polls from this year have found Trump to rise from 32 to 39 to 43 percent support.

Perhaps the most concerning part of the poll for Biden is the gains Trump has made with young voters. Trump trounced Biden in the 18-35 years old demographic, beating him 53-38. This is a gain from a previous survey conducted in February, where Trump had still topped Biden 50-43.

The survey respondents were reported to be 25 percent Democrats, 25 percent Republicans, and 42 percent self-described independents. Of those independents, 41 percent said they leaned to the Democrat Party, whereas 45 percent claimed to lean Republican.
