The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a proposed government agency, has officially launched its account on the social media platform X. The department, announced on Tuesday night in a statement made by President-elect Trump, will be led by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
"I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency (“DOGE”)," Trump said in his statement. "Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies - Essential to the 'Save America' Movement.”
Musk has been a vocal critic of unchecked government spending and has expressed the importance of cracking down on financial waste at the federal level. He stated that DOGE would “send shockwaves through the system and anyone involved in Government waste.”
While it remains to be seen how DOGE will operate and what role it will play in the government under a Trump administration, the President-elect added in his statement that it has the potential to become “The Manhattan Project of our time.”
