The case against Trump was dropped back in July.
On Tuesday, a federal appeals court dismissed the case against Donald Trump’s valet Walt Nauta and property manager Carlos De Oliveira, who were charged alongside Trump in the Mar-a-Lago documents case. The case against Trump was dropped back in July.
According to NPR, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed the case against the two men, who had faced charges of obstructing justice for allegedly assisting in moving classified papers at Mar-a-Lago.
The prosecution against the men was brought by special counsel Jack Smith in 2023, with Smith resigning from his role before Trump took office. He claimed that Trump had illegally held onto sensitive government materials after returning to Mar-a-Lago after leaving the White House and that Nauta and De Oliveira had worked with Trump to conceal information from the DOJ, CBS News reported.
The case against Trump and the two men had been dismissed by Judge Aileen Cannon in July, with Smith appealing the decision to the 11th Circuit. After Trump won the election, Smith requested that Trump be removed from the case due to DOJ policy that forbids the prosecution of a sitting president. The appeal, however, was continuing in regards to Nauta and De Oliveira.
