The first details have emerged from Kamala Harris' pre-taped interview on CNN alongside running mate Tim Walz. In the portion that has been released, Harris explains her shift on policy with illegal immigration as well as fracking, however, she said that despite these decisions, her "values have not changed."

According to CNN, when Dana Bash asked Harris about her shift from decriminalizing illegal immigration to saying she will be tougher on border policy, Harris called back to her record as California Attorney General, claiming that she would help to prosecute gangs and criminals who are crossing the border if elected.

She attempted to explain her record on fracking and then added, “I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed,” she said. “You mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed – and I have worked on it – that the climate crisis is real, that it is an urgent matter to which we should apply metrics that include holding ourselves to deadlines around time.”

Harris previously said in a 2019 town hall, “There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking, and starting with what we can do on Day 1 around public lands."

The VP added in the interview, “We have set goals for the United States of America and by extension, the globe, around when we should meet certain standards for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as an example. That value has not changed."

In 2019, Harris was rated by GovTrack as the most left-wing senator in Congress and has recently reversed several of the positions she had back then. In contrast to her far-left past, she told Bash in the interview that she has spent her career "inviting diversity of opinion." Harris has previously praised defunding the police as well as mandating the sales of electric vehicles.

In this vein, Harris said she would be appointing a former Republican to her cabinet if elected. “I think it would be to the benefit of the American public to have a member of my Cabinet who was a Republican," Harris added, although she did not get specific on who it would be.
