Democrat and former Lt. Governor of Virginia, Justin Fairfax, has killed his wife, Cerina Fairfax, and then shot himself dead in an apparent murder-suicide that took place in the early hours of Thursday morning. Both were found dead in the home address registered to Fairfax in Annandale, Virginia.

Police were called in a little after midnight on Thursday to 8100 on Guinevere Drive in Annandale. Two adults were found inside the residence belonging to Fairfax. The two were going through a divorce. Their son had called the police in response to the killing.

Captain Chris Cosgriff said that authorities believe that Fairfax shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself. They were both declared dead at the scene.

"Officers are on scene of a death investigation in the 8100 block of Guinevere Dr in Annandale. An adult male & an adult female were found deceased inside a residence. Preliminarily, all parties are accounted for & there is no threat to the community. Detectives are investigating," the Fairfax County police said in a statement on X.

Fairfax was previously accused of sexual assault in 2019 by two women; one said the incident took place in 2000 and another said the incident with him took place in 2004. Fairfax maintained he was innocent amid the allegations. One of the women, Meridieth Watson, alleged that she was raped by Fairfax in an "premeditated and aggressive" attack in 2000 when they were students at Duke.

Fairfax ran for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in 2017, facing Republican Jill Vogel at the time.
