In a press release from the House Oversight Committee, the GOP leadership stated, "Today, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released 33,295 pages of Epstein-related records that were provided by the U.S. Department of Justice. On August 5, Chairman Comer issued a subpoena for records related to Mr. Jeffrey Epstein, and the Department of Justice has indicated it will continue producing those records while ensuring the redaction of victim identities and any child sexual abuse material."
The release of the trove of documents comes as there has been heightened scrutiny on the case after the DOJ concluded in a memo that Epstein had not blackmailed wealthy elites, did not have any incriminating "client list," and that Epstein died by suicide. After the memo became public, there were many who pushed for more transparency surrounding the case, leading the Trump administration to have Ghislaine Maxwell interviewed by the DOJ as well as requested the release of more documents related to the case.
One of the documents in the release on Tuesday stated that approximately 9 days before Epstein's death, he did "not appear to be an immediate danger to self."
In August, after the Oversight Committee issued a subpoena to obtain the Epstein-related documents at the DOJ, Chairman James Comer stated, “There are many records in DOJ’s custody, and it will take the Department time to produce all the records and ensure the identification of victims and any child sexual abuse material are redacted. I appreciate the Trump Administration’s commitment to transparency and efforts to provide the American people with information about this matter.”
The Oversight Committee has also lined up depositions with a number of figures who had connections to Epstein, including Bill and Hillary Clinton as well as Alex Acosta others. Comer also subpoenaed Epstein's estate for records in August.
