"It is generally accepted that the pipe bombs acted as a means of diverting law enforcement resources away from the Capitol."
The letter stated, "During the 119th Congress, we have sought information regarding the discovery of the pipe bombs near the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters buildings on January 6.' More than four years later, there remain more questions than answers surrounding who may have placed these devices and whether federal law enforcement entities have adequately investigated the matter? Given the presence of Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris's Secret Service detail at the DNC when authorities discovered the pipe bomb, your agents may possess information that is necessary for our oversight and request your cooperation in this process."
"On January 6, 2021, Vice President-Elect Harris arrived at the DNC at 11:25 am. In preparation for her arrival, at least ten Secret Service agents conducted a sweep of the premises around 8:30 am. This included the use of two canine units, yet the units did not detect the pipe bomb. At 1:05 p.m., a plain-clothes United States Capitol Police (USCP) officer discovered the DNC pipe bomb about 25 minutes after the device near the RNC had been discovered.' It is generally accepted that the pipe bombs acted as a means of diverting law enforcement resources away from the Capitol, notably at almost precisely the same time as protestors started to breach the Capitol perimeter," the letter added.
The chairman requested, "(1) All transcripts, in unredacted form, in the possession of the Secret Service, of transcribed interviews of Secret Service personnel conducted during the 117th Congress by the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol; and (2) All documents and communications referring or relating to a cell phone migration, system upgrade, or any other process or act by which employees of the United States Secret Service had their phones wiped of all electronic communications in the January - April 2021 timeframe."
The letter also asked for interviews with officials whose names were redacted.
The letter from Loudermilk comes after there was a report from the Blaze that claimed a former Capitol Police Officer was a "forensic match" of the J6 pipe bomber, which was based on how the pipe bomber walked on video. Software as well as other analysts said the gait of the suspect and the police officer was "94% match." However, the report has not yet been verified.
