After Rep. Al Green (D-TX) continuously interrupted President Donald Trump during the president's speech on Tuesday, the House has voted to censure the lawmaker with a vote of 224 to 198. 10 Democrats also voted to censure Green.

The vote comes after a resolution to censure—a formal statement of disapproval from Congress—was drafted and advanced on Wednesday to be voted on the floor on Thursday. Green will be the 28th lawmaker to be censured by Congress.

After Green was censured, many Democrats sang "We Shall Overcome" in response.

When Trump was speaking on Tuesday evening, within the first few minutes of his speech, Democrats began interrupting the address.

Green accused Trump of wanting to cut Medicaid, something that Trump has promised not to do. House Speaker Mike Johnson then said, "Members are directed to uphold and maintain decorum in the House and to cease any further interruptions. That's your warning."

Green continued, and shouted in the middle of Trump's speech, "You have no mandate!" and continued to interrupt the president. Johnson then had the US Sergeant-at-Arms escort Green out of the hall. GOP House members cheered the action, chanting out, "Na-nah, na-na-nah, heeey, goodbye!"

Trump continued his speech, where he emphasized that he has "signed nearly 100 executive orders and taken more than 400 executive actions to restore common sense, safety, optimism, and wealth all across our wonderful land. The people elected me to do the job, and I am doing it."

Green, after he was removed, doubled down on his point regaring Medicaid, "I’m not angry with the officers. I’m not upset with the members who are going to bring the motions or resolution to sanction. I will suffer the consequences. But I must add this, what I did was from my heart. People are suffering and I was talking about Medicaid, I didn’t just say you don’t have a mandate. I said you don’t have a mandate to cut Medicaid."

After the vote, Johnson told reporters, "It was a deliberative action. It needed to be met with swift punishment—that's the tradition of this place, to maintain decorum—and so that's what we just did."
