Just moments into President Donald Trump's address to the joint session of Congress, Democrats began shouting and booing in protest of Trump, and Rep. Al Green was escorted out of the chamber.

As Trump spoke about winning the popular vote in the country, Democrats began booing. The Republican side of the chamber broke out into chants of "USA." Moments later he spoke about a 41-point jump in small business optimism, which was again met with shouts from the Democrats.

House Speaker Mike Johnson interrupted Trump to bring order to the room, warning, "members are directed to uphold and maintain decorum in the House and to cease any further interruptions. That's your warning." Green was seen standing while other Democrats around him sat, yelling at Johnson. Johnson's warning was met with shouts. "Members are engaging in willful and continuing breach of decorum, and the chair is prepared to direct the sergeant at arms to restore order to the joint session," Johnson said, which was met with cheers from Republicans.

"Mr. Green, take your seat. Take your seat, sir," Johnson told Green. After a pause, during which Green again yelled, Johnson said, "Finding that members continue to engage in willful and concerted disruption of proper decorum, the chair now directs the sergeant at arms to restore order. Remove this gentleman from the chamber." Chants of "Hey hey hey, goodbye" broke out from the GOP lawmakers.

Once able to continue, Trump said that he has "signed nearly 100 executive orders and taken more than 400 executive actions to restore common sense, safety, optimism, and wealth all across our wonderful land. The people elected me to do the job, and I am doing it."

"In fact, it has been stated by many, that the first month of our presidency, it's our presidency, is the most successful in the history of our nation."

Speaking with reporters after being removed, Green said, "the president said he had a mandate, and I was making it clear to the president that he has no mandate to cut Medicaid. I have people who are very fearful, these are poor people, and they have only Medicaid in their lives when it comes to healthcare."

He later added, "I’m willing to suffer whatever punishment is available to me. I didn’t say to anyone don’t punish me. I’ve said I’ll accept the punishment. But it's worth it to let people know that there's some of us who are going to stand up to against this president's desire to cut Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security

Democrats who didn’t attend the address included Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Gerry Connolly, Kweisi Mfume, and Don Beyer, per The Hill.
