An ICE agent was able to save the life of a boy who had stopped breathing and went unresponsive while waiting at the TSA line.
According to Fox News' Bill Melugin, the agent saved the boy when he was able to perform the Heimlich maneuver on him and prevent him from choking. The boy had gone limp and the father of the boy was panicking.
"On March 25, 2026, an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent helping to support Transportation Security Administration (TSA) operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York jumped into action to help save the life of a one-year-old child experiencing a medical emergency. The heroic actions of this officer began when a one-year-old child became unresponsive in the arms of his father, unable to breathe for almost two minutes," DHS said in a statement.
"CCTV review shows a passenger in a TSA Precheck line holding his one-year-old in his arms when the child’s arms go lifeless; panic ensues, and the father is seen scrambling around the area, and calling for help. The agent working at his post, heard the screams from the father and other passengers and sprinted to the scene. The father handed the child to the officer, who then assessed the unresponsive child and began performing the Heimlich maneuver. After a few seconds, the child started breathing again. EMS personnel arrived on scene with medical equipment to further monitor and re-assess the child. The child was re-assessed and determined to be healthy enough to fly."
The incident comes after President Donald Trump has deployed ICE agents to airports across the United States to help out as TSA has been struggling. A partial government shutdown has been going on for weeks at the Department of Homeland Security as Democrats have refused to fund the agency, arguing that ICE should not get more funding.
Call-out rates for TSA have skyrocketed as the agents have not been getting paid because of the partial shutdown.
