The Republican staffer in Indiana who was fired over making an "OK" hand gesture in a photo has gotten his job back after backlash against the party leadership over the decision. Indiana Republican Party Chairwoman Lana Keesling made the announcement on Monday, apologizing for the firing.

"I am glad to share that Paul Tinkle will be returning to his position with the Indiana Republican Party. After learning more about the situation, it became clear that I did not have the full picture. I made the wrong decision regarding Paul’s employment, and I take full responsibility for it," Keesling said.

"I want to personally apologize to Paul for jumping to a conclusion that was not supported by the facts. With Election Day approaching, I am grateful for the people who give their time and energy to our party, and I look forward to having Paul back as part of that effort. Together, we will continue working hard through November 3," the statement added.

Tinkle responded, "I appreciate the party giving me my position back. I will be releasing a full statement later. So many people have assisted me throughout within the party. I wish I could thank all personally. I'm overwhelmed by the support of the past few days. Let's get Max Engling elected!"

Last week, Tinkle said that he had gotten fired from his job after he and others snapped a photo that featured him displaying an "OK" hand sign, which some left-wing groups have alleged is associated with "white power." He said in a thread on X that he had no chance to defend himself in any meeting and that he got angry texts from Indiana GOP officials indicating that the "Hamilton county chair believed I was sabotaging his photo with the [ok sign]."

The county chair, Mario Massillamany, denied that he had a part in Tinkle's firing. Massillamany has also spoken favorably of DEI in the past and when he was asked about this over the phone from reporters, he hung up.
