The Biden admin-appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith held a press conference on Tuesday evening where he announced the unsealing of yet another indictment against former President Trump.

In the press conference, which only lasted two minutes and he took no questions at the end, Smith characterized the riots at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 as an "unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy," and said it according to the indictment, "it was fueled by lies" from Trump.

Smith said the Justice Department was determined to hold "criminally responsible" those responsible for January 6, and said that this new case against Trump "is brought consistent with that commitment." He also promised that his office will be seeking a "speedy trial" before then thanking the FBI for helping his unit with its probe on Trump.

As Smith left the podium, a few questions were shouted out by reporters. Smith remained silent and continued his prompt exit, holding to an earlier delivered promise of no questions being answered following the brief press conference.

In his indictment of the former president, the Biden DOJ-selected special prosecutor claimed that Trump "had a right like every American to speak publicly about the election and even to claim falsely that he had won" while also charging him for allegedly "obstruct[ing] the J6 congressional proceeding."

Trump has been charged with 4 different criminal counts, including conspiracy to defraud the government, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.

The indictment states that six unnamed co-conspirators were put together to help the former president with his "criminal efforts to overturn" the results of the election so he could maintain his power. It alleges that Trump and his allies  "pushed officials to ignore the popular vote" and "organized fraudulent slates of electors" in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Trump has repeatedly denied wrongdoing, and slammed the Biden DOJ just before the charges officially dropped over what he describes as "prosecutorial misconduct."
