Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that all footage related to the January 6 riot at the US Capitol have been released to the public.

"Today, I am keeping my promise to the American people and making all the January 6th tapes available to ALL Americans," Speaker Johnson wrote on X.

Johnson followed up the post with a link to 44,000 hours of footage captured on Jan. 6. from the U.S. Capitol.

"To restore America's trust and faith in their Government we must have transparency. This is another step towards keeping the promises I made when I was elected to be your Speaker," Johnson said.

This comes after former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed in his promise to release the Jan. 6 footage before his historic ousting in September.

The release of the recordings has been highly anticipated by Republican politicians and voters ever since former Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi established the "sham" Jan. 6 committee. Furthermore, the Biden administration has faced allegations of weaponizing the Department of Justice in order to unjustly single out individuals who had been involved in the riot, resulting in harsh prison sentences.

Former President Donald Trump, who is currently facing criminal charges by the Biden DOJ in relation to the events that occurred at the Capitol on that day, congratulated House Speaker Johnson for having the "courage" to release the tapes to the American people.

"Congratulations to Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson for having the Courage and Fortitude to release all of the J6 Tapes, which will explicitly reveal what really happened on January 6th!" Donald Trump said on Truth Social.

Trump has maintained his innocence and has been requesting the release of the tapes since the riot.

In August, Biden Special Counsel Jack Smith indicted Trump on conspiracy charges, alleging that the former President had "made knowingly false claims that there had been outcome-determinative fraud in the 2020 presidential election" as part of an effort to overturn the results.

Earlier this month, Jack Smith issued a new court filing in the case alleging that Trump used "deceit, trickery, or dishonest means." Smith claimed that Trump could be found guilty even if he truly believed the election was stolen.

District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is overseeing the case, issued a gag order on President Trump which prevents him from publicly discussing critical matters related to Jan. 6. Trump's legal team filed an appeal that is still under review.

Johnson's release of the tapes has been praised across social media.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
