Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) is reportedly considering re-registering as a Democrat in order to throw his hat in the ring for the presidency after President Joe Biden bowed out of the 2024 presidential race.

West Virginia's Manchin left the Democrat party in May and has been rumored to have presidential ambitions. CNN's Jake tapper reported that sources close to Manchin said he had been considering the idea.

Manchin urged Biden to "pass the torch" on Sunday, joining a chorus of voices that by the afternoon had succeeded in ousting the president from his campaign. Calls for Biden's resignation came after that.

“I came to the decision with a heavy heart that I think it’s time to pass the torch to a new generation,” Manchin said of Biden. “I left the Democrat Party because it’s not the Democratic Party I grew up in, that I always knew."

He added that the party used to abide by the line from John F. Kennedy, who said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, what you can do for your country.”

“We are changing into a society, ‘How much more can my country do for me?’ That’s not how it was raised,” Manchin said. “I was always fiscally responsible and socially compassionate. I never believed that government should be your provider. It should be your partner.”

Biden announced on Sunday that he would be dropping out the presidential race and has endorsed VP Kamala Harris for president. The Clintons have endorsed her, however former President Barack Obama did not go so far as giving her support for the nominiation.
